Nicaragua's San Cristobal Volcano Shows Signs of Eruption - Residents Evacuated

Officials have ordered the evacuation of residents living in the vicinity of San Cristobal, Nicaragua's highest volcano, which spewed hot gases and ash on Thursday.  A yellow alert was issued and residents evacuated within the vicinity of 1.8 miles around the volcano, those at highest risk in case of an eruption.

About 1,500 farmers have refused to evacuate amidst ash falling on trees, houses and roads.  About 150 army troops have been deployed to assist families with evacuations and to persu...

Nicaragua's San Cristobal Volcano Erupts

About 3,000 people have evacuated from the area surrounding San Cristobal Volcano.  The government ordered the local community to leave and sent troops to the region northwest of the capital Managua. 

Powerful explosions were heard as the volcano erupted on Saturday and more explosions are expected.  The 5,700 foot volcano is the highest peak in Nicaragua.  The volcano sent ash and smoke 2-3 miles into the atmosphere.
